In case anyone is interested...

... in what I have to say about art, rather than the art I make, I have found myself writing more than I have in months in the comments to this post by Geoff Grogan (one of the Abstract Comics anthology contributors) one the new blog started by him and Kevin Mutch. It's about art history and comics' place within it, about modernism and postmodernism and radical critique and all that fun stuff...

Some "Nautilus" dedication doodles

I thought it might be fun to show some of the doodles I draw in copies of "Nautilus." (FYI, I have digitally removed the names of the dedicatees and my signatures.)

The road to "Underwhirl"

A couple of nights ago, Mike Getsiv posted this strip, "Whirlover," at the Abstract Comics blog.

I felt like playing around with it, so I downloaded it, then freely traced it, drawing each panel in one continuous line:

I then proceeded to draw over this, turning the abstract shapes into more concrete forms:

Then I redrew it all over again, regularizing the panel borders and playing around with two colors:

Finally, since I wasn't sure it actually read like a comic, I thought I'd add words that might prompt the reader to see some connection from panel to panel and an overall arc to the story:

And I may still not be done with it...

Thanks to Mike for allowing me to muck around with his drawing!

Patriotic superheroes!!

Ok, this has NOTHING to do with abstract comics, but I contributed two superheroes to Chris Duffy's Fourth of July project--one that I created all by myself, and another created by my wife, and which I just drew.

Enjoy!!
